Health classes explained

Preferred Plus, Preferred, Standard Plus, Standard: their definitions and what shifts your ranking.

Insurers organize term pricing into rate categories. Naming shifts between companies, but the structure stays the same: Preferred Plus (sometimes Super Preferred or Preferred Best), Preferred, Standard Plus, and Standard, with additional table ratings for elevated risk. Tobacco consumers face their own tiered structure at higher cost.

What underwriters look at

Height-to-weight ratio, blood pressure, cholesterol levels, whether your relatives had early heart or cancer, your driving history, medication list, job, pastimes, and any nicotine consumption. Top classes require nearly flawless results; Preferred permits some variance; Standard Plus and Standard approve managed issues like controlled high blood pressure.

How to use the quote tool

The health inquiry asks for an honest self-assessment: Excellent corresponds to Preferred Plus, Very good to Preferred, Good to Standard Plus, Average to Standard. Your quotes are built on that tier; underwriting finalizes the actual tier. Uncertain? Request quotes for two tiers side by side, then let underwriting settle it. Inflating your health status does not trim the ultimate premium; it only clouds your estimate.

Susman Insurance Agency can match you with carriers that take a more favorable view of a particular condition, often proving more valuable than chasing the lowest starting rate.
